Pylos (or Neokastro) is a beautiful small seaside town, 52 km from Kalamata. It is mainly characterized by its bright white houses with their beautiful gardens, the narrow picturesque paths and the main square with the old war cannons. In the middle of the square there is one of the biggest Platanus trees in Greece where under its shade you can enjoy your coffee in one of the numerous traditional coffee houses. A trip to Pylos should definitely include a visit to one of the most important Mycenaean palaces like those of King Nestor, Niokastro which is one of the best preserved castles in the Peloponnese, Palaiokastro, the island of Sfaktiria where you can find memorial monuments, the Antonopouleion Archaeological Museum and the preserved home of K. Tsiklitiras, a former olympics medal winner.
